ABOUT  LAERSKOOL JIM FOUCHE

Head of School's Welcome,

Jim Fouche started out as Crosby Afrikaans Medium Skool, opening its doors for the first time on 25 July 1947 with three educators, a principal and 106 learners. The first buildings were constructed of corrugated iron on a site which used to be a refuse site.

On 8 January 1951 building of the present brick structure started and was completed in 1953 at a cost of ₤40 000. The learner complement had grown to 540 learners by that time moved into the new school building on 11 May 1953. The administrative wing and three lqwer grade classes were added to the existing buildings in 1969.

The name of the school was officially changed to Laerskool Jim Fouche in 1968. The school grew rapidly in learner numbers and became a school of note. In sport and cultural activities, the school was a top achiever for many years.

In 1995, the school took in its first black learners and became a parallel medium school with Afrikaans and English as the languages of learning and teaching. The numbers of the Afrikaans speaking learners dwindled and in 2009 Jim Fouche became an English medium school. At present the learner compliment is represented by Black, Coloured, Indian and a few White learners.

Sincerely,

Head of School
